Branded Packaging Design

Karbear Ramune

This was a student design project in which I was tasked with creating original branded packaging. I was required to design a flat label and a physical package mockup.

Vision & Approach

For this branded packaging project, I created a hypothetical snack company called 'Karbear,' featuring a Ramune drink. I aimed for a fun, playful aesthetic with cute cartoon graphics throughout the design to appeal to younger audiences. My inspiration came from Brisk’s bold, cartoon-driven branding, as well as the whimsical style of Hello Kitty, which I referenced to add a charming, youthful touch.

The entire design was created in Adobe Illustrator and printed onto a physical label, which I applied to a Ramune bottle for a complete mockup.

The Label

I wanted the lucky cat to be the main focus of this label, as it also serves to represent the soda's flavour, which is raspberry and blueberry. Additionally, I incorporated Japanese cultural elements, including Mount Fuji, Tokyo Tower, and a Koinobori, to enhance the theme.

Physical Mockup

For the physical mockup, I printed the label on cardstock, glued it onto a Ramune bottle, and filled the bottle with red food colouring. I chose an actual Ramune bottle because its unique shape adds to the drink’s charming character. Because this was a physical product, and to make it visually appealing for my digital portfolio, I edited the bottle in Photoshop.
